100mph Lambretta ?

Currently waving the flag for Luton Lambretta Club on the racing front is Darren English and his crosser barreled 5 speed demon pushing out a rumoured 40bhp.

Letchworth based Darren is well known and respected on the engine building front with local scooterists and this is his first foray into racing.

The bikes engine is quite a piece of engineering - moto cross barrel, stroked crank, 5 speed gearbox using standard width gears and possibly the first centrifugally locking clutch seen on a lambretta with power transfer by toothed belt rather than chain. It has taken many, many hours of machining one-off parts to get the engine to its current state.

Still under development and with the teething troubles slowly getting sorted 2008 could be the year Darren clears the magical 100mph barrier so far eluding him having so far achieved a personal best of 99.4mph / 13.3 secs
